Looking forward to Confirmation - 16 May 2020, 6 pm

It is always a great occasion for a Catholic parish when the bishop comes to confer the Sacrament of Confirmation. So we are already looking forward to the visitation of Bishop Pat Lynch from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 May, with the Confirmation Mass being celebrated at 6 pm on Saturday 16 May.

Our young Confirmation candidates all participated in our very successful Youth Alpha course in the autumn. They will embark on the second stage of their Confirmation journey - with sessions focusing on the sacraments of initiation, preparing them to be confirmed - at the start of March.

"The God Who Speaks: The Year of the Word"- Throughout 2020
Picture
Celebrating, living and sharing God's Word. That's what our Catholic Bishops of England and Wales are asking us to do in 2020, in The God Who Speaks: The Year of the Word. We're marking the 1,600th anniversary of the death of Saint Jerome, a giant among biblical scholars, and the 10th anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI's letter Verbum Domini (The Word of the Lord).
Father Victor is always encouraging us to immerse ourselves in the Scriptures. So we're definitely up for celebrating, living and sharing them; and we'll be trying to do lots of different things this year to make it A Year of the Word for everyone at Holy Innocents'.

Rededication of England as Our Lady's Dowry - 29 March 2020
England has since medieval times been known as the "Dowry of Mary". Not in the modern sense, of a payment made by a bride's family to the family of her future husband. But in the original sense, of a gift set aside by a loving husband for his wife.

Our Catholic bishops are calling on every Catholic in England to rededicate themselves to Our Lady. And on Sunday 29 March, at cathedrals and parishes and in homes throughout the land, we will be rededicating our country to Our Lady as her dowry.

Keep an eye on our Newsletter and on this page for more details of how we'll be taking part in this re-dedication at Holy Innocents'.

First Holy Communion - 14 June 2020, 12 noon

Picture
Every Sunday morning at the moment, after the 10 am Mass, a large crowd is assembling at Holy Innocents' School.

It's made up of the boys and girls on what we call the "First Holy Communion journey". The journey that takes them to celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation and then on the Feast of Corpus Christi in June receiving Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time; and onwards into a lifetime of being a follower of Jesus.
It's a journey that needs the commitment of their whole family. Which is why the excited crowd on Sunday mornings also includes parents, who've been invited to join all of the sessions. All of them - children, parents and catechists - are supported by the prayers of everyone at Holy Innocents'.
